And Jesus whispered:
One result of “poor
in spirit”, in Matthew 5 gospel, means to surrender total self-control. It
does not mean get rid of your essence[your individual personality, self-ability] or dishonor the self. I do not
want to somehow rule over a beat up, ruined self but just receive a surrendered
one. What happens when you truly offer your Self? You create a kind of
emptiness to be filled. The Holy Spirit can now join in that space and help make
you aware of the right image you are made in God, your God need, and God
dependence. You can accept heavenly Father’s grace and lean fully on him.
Without the emptying of the self, you would still be filled with the push of all
the worldly clutter. That clutter tries to block the Holy Spirit, silencing His
inner message. In the Biblical sense, crucify your false self so your true self
can be resurrected.
Prayer: Lord, help me become more other-centered in
Christlike ways.
