Disappointment
“Oh Jerusalem.
Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her!
How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her
chicks under her wings, but you were not willing!”
[Mt.23:37, NKJV].
Jesus was not upset over Jerusalem because He was
disappointed. The idea of disappointment is based on missing the mark (sin)
which Jesus did not experience. His statement shows more a sorrow of lost innocence
and of missed potential of what the people could have had.
God is not so much disappointed in us as He has a kind of
sorrow based on Grace, when we are unwilling to understand Him and go our own
way.
